Trip to Nara, Japan. Its cherry blossom time and not complete without a trip to Nara, the first permanent capital of Japan. The Todaji Temple was originally constructed in 752. The current structure is a reconstruction dating from 1692 and at 2/3’s the original’s size, is still the world’s largest wooden building. The Daibutsu (Great Buddha) statue is bronze (cast in 746) and is over 16 m tall. It has withstood earthquakes and fires but he has lost his head a few times.
